As we approach the midway point, your hometown Classic City Rollergirls are enjoying one their most successful seasons ever.
It’s cold consolation to Georgia fans who hoped for a Heisman trophy and at least an SEC championship out of Todd Gurley’s time in Athens, but he’s about to be a very rich man. As sure as a Florida Gator has a closet full of jean shorts, Gurley will be a first-round NFL draft pick on Thursday.

You’re going to the Twilight Criterium on Saturday, right? Right? Well, if you don’t feel like jockeying for space with half the city, here are a couple of VIP events, along with a good way to get your pre-race drank on.

Everyone loves parity in professional sports. Leagues of evenly matched teams result in hotly contested matches that go down to the wire, and fan bases that remain interested every season (and all season) because their team is forever in the hunt, capable of winning on any given night.
Todd Gurley won't "Run This Town" anymore. The running back will "Change Clothes" out of his Georgia uniform because he's going "H.A.M." in the NFL after signing with Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Although Bulldog fans wanted an "Encore," Gurley was widely expected to forgo his senior year, something Coach Mark Richt confirmed a couple of weeks ago. Signing with an agent, though, means it's set in stone. He's ineligible to play college football.

Well, it beats Shreveport.
Georgia fans, of course, are complaining about having to go to scenic Charlotte, NC, to play what they feel is an inferior team, No. 21 Louisville, in the Belk Bowl, which is a thing I, like many, only found out exists yesterday.
The Belk Bowl, founded in 2002, doesn't really have a prestigious pedigree, with past matchups featuring such national powerhouses as Boston College versus Navy and Pittsburg versus North Carolina. But it gained new prominence this year when the NCAA instituted a four-team playoff. Under the new system, there are six top-tier bowls and six second-tier bowls.
So how did Georgia end up in this Belk Bowl? Like everything else in college football, it's illogical, arbitrary, arcane and complicated to the point of being incomprehensible.

It has been a busy off-season for the Classic City Rollergirls. The team has elected a new captain (Louis Strongarm) and once again endured attrition, losing important members of the 2014 squad to retirement (Amy T. Ville) and the Division I league in Atlanta (Human Missile Crisis and High Jinxx). Those are tough skates to fill.

Surely, you thought, after last year's cavalcade of exploding ligaments, Georgia could get through a season without a serious knee injury. Sadly, that is not the case.
