Future Ape Tapes
The local experimental scene has experienced a dramatic rebirth over the past year or two—this feature from last April provided a general overview of said rebirth. Since that article's publication, Athens' underground has continued to explode, new noise, drone and otherwise uncategorizable acts popping up like shapeshifting flowers throughout the local music landscape.
Two ongoing concert series have emerged of late, both designed to showcase Athens' experimental underground. At Hendershot's, a series of Sunday night shows has featured acts like Motion Sickness of Time Travel and Angel Brown (the next, slated for Apr. 20, features Scab Queen, Royal Futility and Entropidone; looking ahead, noise legendsPedestrian Deposit will perform May 23). Meanwhile, each Monday in April The World Famous is hosting a similarly themed evening of music, curated by Madeline Hassett of Tonda.
Tonight (Apr. 14), the latter series continues with sets from anti-pop warriors Future Ape Tapes, the garage-leaning Strays and drone project Aprotag. Doors are at 9 p.m., and admission costs $3. Check the Facebook event page for more info.

There are plenty of options for live music goodness to help you get over the proverbial hump this week. After the jump, three of our picks.
Amy Godwin
If you need a dose of live music to take the edge off this dreary Monday, there are two shows this evening particularly worthy of your time. First, at the Caledonia Lounge, enjoy a terrific triple-bill headlined by E6 comeback kids Circulatory System, who will release a long-awaited third LP, Mosaics Within Mosaics, this summer. Along with Drag City psych-folk duoNew Bums (read our feature on that band here), the openers include Atlanta-based songstress Amy Godwin, whose ghostly, loop-based ukelele-and-voice compositions offer a more earthy local counterpoint to artists like Julianna Barwick.

Little Gold, the sorta-country Athens-based folk-rock project helmed by former Woods member Christian DeRoeck, unexpectedly posted a brand new LP, Spectral Sight, to its Bandcamp page earlier this week. The album, which the group describes as "a breakup record, a road trip record and a cautionary tale about the perils of messing with witches," features contributions from Erin Lovett, Mat Lewis, Lucas Jensen and more. Also, it's really good. You can stream it after the jump.
Water Liars
Tonight at Normaltown Hall, Mississippi folk-rockers Water Liars return to perform tunes from their stellar new self-titled LP, which is out on Fat Possum this month. The arid songscapes of the group's previous outing, Wyoming, have been replaced with a full-band bombast that serves to elevate frontman Justin Kinkel-Schuster's bleak, desperate songwriting. Stream "I Want Blood" after the jump.

If you've got a hankering for some early-week laffs, head over to Green Room tonight to catch a set from Myq Kaplan. The comedian, who is fresh off his Friday appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" (watch the clip after the jump), was a finalist on "Last Comic Standing" in 2010 and has released two albums of stand-up: Vegan Mind Meld and Please Be Seated.
