As the solo project of Athens musician Jack O'Reilly (Wieuca, Blanko), Jack's Johnson is more or less whatever O'Reilly wants it to be at the moment. Today, we're tickled pink to premiere the latest single from Jack's Johnson, the enjoyable, incorrigible "Cropduster."

Garage-rock duo Eureka California released one of the finest local albums of 2016 with the catchy, combustible Versus, and now the group is back with a three-song 7-inch single on longtime label HHBTM.
The band has shared "Wigwam," the single's punchy namesake, which you can stream below:
Up-and-coming Athens/Atlanta three-piece WF Addams formed this spring out of the ashes of heavy/sad/epic rock group Juna, and ditches that project's sense of unresolved gloom for a somewhat more spirited, if no less reflective, approach.
The Athens-music explosion during the 1980s birthed hundreds of local bands, many of which have been rendered obscure by time. Until now, pop quartet Seven Simons was one such group. The band released two albums during its initial run—1988's Clockwork and 1991's Four Twenty-Four—that were indebted both to R.E.M.'s jangle-rock sound and also the era's moodier UK alt-rock scene.

Last month we told you that former R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills was working on a classical/rock hybrid called Concerto for Rock Band, Violin and Strings. Rolling Stone premiered a movement from the concerto called “Sonny Side Up” on its website last week.
The concerto is a collaboration with violinist and Mills’ longtime friend Robert McDuffie. Backing musicians include McDuffie’s Mercer University music students and Athens music-scene veterans John Neff (Drive-By Truckers), William Tonks and Patrick Ferguson (Five Eight).

Athens mainstay Muuy Biien has been relatively quiet on the local front over the past year or so, but now the group is gearing up to release its third full-length. Age of Uncertainty is out Oct. 28 via Los Angeles imprint Autumn Tone Records. The label was founded by Aquarium Drunkard mastermind (and former Athenian) Justin Gage.

The Drive-By Truckers are gearing up to release American Band Sept. 30. As we inch closer to the 2016 presidential election, it's looking like the album will be the group's most politically charged effort yet.
First we heard "Surrender Under Protest," a Mike Cooley-penned anthem that commemorated the victims of the South Carolina church massacre. Now comes the album's second single, a Patterson Hood number called "What It Means."
It's been many moons since we've gotten to enjoy a new Cinemechanica studio recording. The Athens math-rock band's most recent release is 2008's Rivals EP; its last full-length, The Martial Arts, came out way back in 2006. Thankfully, the group is set to make up for its lengthy absence with the self-titled Cinemechanica, out Sept. 23 via Arrowhawk Records.
Over the course of its several-year existence, Athens-based "Amerigrass" project Grassland String Band has evolved from a straightahead bluegrass outfit into something more nuanced and compelling. The transition is solidified with the group's new EP, The Echo Mountain Sessions, recorded in Asheville, NC last January.
Today we're pleased to premiere "Diamond," the first single from the upcoming EP. The song, which features contributions from Hammond B3 master Ike Stubblefield, was penned by GSB's Michael Lesousky.
