Rejoice, ye townies, for the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church property shall not be maxed out with more student apartments.
Plans submitted Friday by Greenville, SC-based Davis Property Group show a 192,000 square-foot mixed-use development (not including parking) with commercial space fronting Prince Avenue and 146 one- and two-bedroom apartments above and behind it, all in three-story buildings.

Athens-Clarke County police arrested Pedro Alvarado, 43, on Tuesday in connection with a reported assault on the North Oconee River Greenway.

That is the mantra behind a group of residents who are starting an effort to align Athens-Clarke County’s policies with state and national transportation standards. Complete Streets Athenslaunches its community-wide effort with the event “Streets are for People” from 6-8 p.m.Thursday, Sept. 24, at Little Kings Shuffle Club, 223 W. Hancock Ave.
The event is free and open to the public, and will include bike light installations and an introduction to the mission of Complete Streets Athens.
The temperature has dipped below 100 degrees, so it must be fall.

Starting this Saturday through Dec. 19, you can catch a free bus to the Athens Farmers Market, except on football gamedays.
The “Fresh Food Bus” will run on Saturday mornings every hour from 8:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. and will stop at Building S, Memorial Hall/the Tate Center, the Multimodal Center and Russell Hall. A full schedule is available here.

The University of Georgia will hire 56 new faculty members in the coming year, UGA announced today.
Some new faculty will start teaching in August the university said. Ten faculty members were hired last fall to teach 80 courses with high demand.
By fall 2016, UGA will have added 319 course sections in 81 majors, and the majority of classes will have fewer than 20 students.
UGA’s current student/faculty ratio is 18–1.
