Hello, friends. I've been out of town for several days and thus Homedrone posting has been sparse and I've got a thousand million emails to delete, I mean respond to, and so here's a quick VIDEO ROUNDUP:
The video for Powerkompany's "It's Not the Last," a terrific track from the band's terrific new album I Am More Than This is just as elaborate and, y'know, artsy and stuff as the group's music. Dig:
Below, stream "Battle Funk," a 10-minute tune from Brooklyn soul-noise outfit NYMPH's upcoming album New Millenium Prayer. The band, which recently built on its already strong Athens ties by inviting several former members of Dark Meat—namely Jim McHugh, Jason Robira and sometime Flagpole contributor Jeff Tobias—into the fold, has built its psych-addled worldbeat into something muscular and beautifully freakish.
Local emcee Cassie Chantel has been building up steam for the last couple years; she recently followed up last year's solid Enjoy mixtape with a sequel, Enjoy Two, this past March. And today, via her website, she leaked a brand new track. "The Dedication" is a sparse and seductive tune with production courtesy of AyoWayneKilldit where Chantel details a relationship gone bad.
Whatever you're doing today, take 43 minutes and 19 seconds to listen to Monomania, the new Deerhunter album, which you can stream below courtesy of the good folks over at NPR.
Below, stream "OK Corral," the first single from T. Hardy Morris' upcoming solo debut, Audition Tapes, out July 30 via Dangerbird Records. In this setting, the Dead Confederate frontman showcases a more intricate side of himself; "OK Corral" takes cues from '60s psych-pop and rambling alt-country, Morris' crackling voice anchoring the warm tune.
Last month, we shared a stream of the first single from Dead Confederate's upcoming album In the Marrow, the slow-rolling "Vacations." The album doesn't come out officially until Apr. 16, but now, you can stream the whole damn thing, thanks to Spotify.
Back in February, we reported that Futurebirds, that ever-evolving local band of country-rocking brothers, was set to release its second full-length album, Baba Yaga, via Mississippi label Fat Possum on Apr. 14. That's, like, next week, so make sure you've got your affairs in order. Below, stream a song from the record.
The irresistible "Invisible Magnetic" is the title track from the band's upcoming album. Get pumped.
Here's a newly posted video from a group called The Ice Creams, for a little ditty titled "Everyone's Got a Skeleton." The band, which features Zeke Sayer and Matthew Garrison of local band The Humms as well as drummer Stephen Findley, plays a slightly more saccharine version of The Humms' earworm-y garage-punk, impossibly catchy and lean as white meat.
Below, stream "The Sound," a new tune from k i d s, the local pop/noise/nightmare/R&B project of K. Jared Collins. Collins reports that he will follow up last year's These Days album with an EP called are US, set to be recorded live during an upcoming performance, Saturday, Mar. 30 at Caledonia Lounge. Aside from his usual backing band, Velocirapture, Collins promises some special guests for that show, including Pretty Bird, Josh Evans of Muuy Biien and Javier Morales of The Dream Scene/Grass Giraffes.
