Here's a trippy new clip from recent Flagpole Athens Music Award winners Pretty Bird. The low-budget, high-impact video, for the song "in a tin hut," from the group's ambitious recent release HOUSE, is a shrouded, psychedelic affair.
Here's video captured by an audience member at the Athens Music Awards show last night of Victrola Rotor Oilmen (it's an anagram of—oh, you know) paying tribute to their dearly departed brother/spirit guide Bill Doss.
The group performed two Doss-penned songs: "A Sunshine Fix" and "Love Athena." The two classic Olivia Tremor Control tunes appeared on the 2000 rarities collection Presents: Singles and Beyond. And, though the occasion was somewhat solemn, last night, with of Montreal's Bryan Poole tackling Doss' guitar and vocal parts, they sounded fucking great.
Tonight at Ciné, Matt Hudgins and His Shit-Hot Country Band will debut not one, not two, but three new music videos: for the songs "Hello Again 5am" and "Adderall & Alcohol," taken from Hudgins' upcoming 7-inch, the coyly titled The Singles Collection: 2009-2013, as well as "Wilkes County Jail" from Hudgins' terrific 2012 solo release Better Days are Coming.
Hello, friends. I've been out of town for several days and thus Homedrone posting has been sparse and I've got a thousand million emails to delete, I mean respond to, and so here's a quick VIDEO ROUNDUP:
The video for Powerkompany's "It's Not the Last," a terrific track from the band's terrific new album I Am More Than This is just as elaborate and, y'know, artsy and stuff as the group's music. Dig:
This past January, local filmmaker Cartter Fontaine began filming local luthier Jason Booth of Dead Wood Guitars as he crafted a handmade guitar for local bluesman Rick Fowler. The resulting 14-minute documentary, which chronicles the entire process, from tree to tuning, is a fascinating and beautifully shot inside look at one man's commitment to his art.
The Jordan Noel-directed video for "Vacations," a single from Dead Confederate's recently released LP In the Marrow, is not only entertaining but also educational, at least for all y'all aspiring mixologists out there. Ever wondered how to make "Brantley's Jack 'N' Coke"? Click play to find out. (Hint: it involves a broken cigarette and "1 sock of drummer sweat.")
Since its inception, Jared Collins' k i d s project has become less of an enigma, solidifying into something sleek and sure. This doesn't mean it's any less exciting; with each release—and there are lots of them—the group, which finally features a steady cast of charaters thanks to Velocirapture's unforeseen but brilliant assignment as Collins' backing band, continues to hone its sound in unexpected ways.
Adron, an Atlanta-based act who recently opened for Space Trucks at The World Famous, has just released a new video sure to break up any rain clouds with its sunny, cheerful spirit. Directed by Barry Alexander Brown and funded through Kickstarter, the video for “Pyramids” offers a taste of Organismo, an album full of mesmerizing tracks swaying at the crossroads of warm ‘60s Brazilian Tropicália and dreamy ‘70s psychedelic folk.
Below, watch the newly released video for "Maple Branch," a slow-rolling tune from local psych-rap group Mad Axes' most recent album, You Are the Real Monster. It's a striking black-and-white clip that features MCs Louie Larceny and Walter Kovax, a couple axe-wielding femmes and guest star Tom Television, who sings the tune's laconic chorus.
If you were convinced, as was I, that Dodd Ferrelle and S.N.I.P.A.'s "Go Dawgs (Sic 'Em Woof Woof Woof)" represented the glorious pinnacle of UGA-football-anthem inanity, it's time to readjust your worldview.
