If you've passed the old Five Star Day location at the corner of College and Broad recently, you may have noticed that there is stuff going on inside. The Pope brothers (Alan and Ryan), who own Gnat's Landing in St. Simons (but didn't own the Athens location) and used to own Sweet Peppers locally, are the lessees, and their new restaurant, The Place, is shooting to open in January.

Last month, Nuçi's Space launched the "Reconstruction of the Steeple" Indiegogo campaign to refurbish the St. Mary's steeple—the site of R.E.M.'s first gig—and to help fund the nonprofit resource center's programming for 2015.
As of today, the crowdfunding campaign has raised over $128,000—a whopping sum, but well shy of its $250,000 goal. Since it met the halfway mark, though, Indiegogo has agreed to extend the fundraising deadline past its initial Dec. 13 date to Jan. 2, says project manager Marc Tissenbaum.
A Missouri grand jury declined to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson last night in the shooting death of Ferguson resident Michael Brown.
The decision enraged many and sparked protests all over the country. Locally, a Ferguson solidarity protest organized by Athens for Everyone will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at the Arch.

Carl Sanders, Georgia's governor from 1963–1967, died Sunday at the age of 89. The University of Georgia issued a news release highlighting the Double Dawg's impact on UGA.

Owner Wilmot Greene says he is offering it up for sale as of now and, in any case, will not be renewing the liquor license currently held in his name, which expires Dec. 30.

After losing last week's election, U.S. Rep. John Barrow is moving back to Athens.
Barrow, who lost his bid for a sixth term to Republican Rick Allen, has put his Augusta house up for sale and plans on coming back to his hometown, where he still owns a house and his family lives, spokesman Richard Carbo told the Augusta Chronicle.
Polls close at 7 p.m., and results should start coming in about an hour later. Check back.
