Another University of Georgia student was hit by a vehicle on campus today while trying to cross Baldwin Street. This marks the second student struck within three day of classes in the same location. Once again, the student was lucky and walked away with just minor scrapes and bruises.
Daniel Robertson, formerly of Savannah-based promotions company Live Wire Sounds, will assume the role of general manager at downtown music venue and community space New Earth Athens, the venue announced on its Facebook page this week.

College Square will be closed to traffic for an estimated five days while Athens-Clarke County workers fix the damage from a water main break.
An 80- or 90-year-old 12-inch pipe burst underneath the sidewalk Tuesday evening, flooding the basement of the Subway at the corner of Broad and Clayton streets and a vacant space next door, as well as the nearby sidewalks and streets, according to ACC officials.
Word came in yesterday that Rachel Bailey, a longtime Flagpole contributing writer who has penned many great arts and music features over the last several years, fell and suffered a rather serious head injury Friday, Aug. 2.
Though Rachel is now home and expected to make a full recovery, friends are seeking donations to help offset the costs of her hospital stay.

Fans of easy listening station EZFM ("Music To Your Years"), which has been broadcasting locally at WNEE 88.1 and 89.9 FM since summer 2012, got the sad news earlier today that the station will no longer occupy space on the Athens-area radio dial.

The primary runoff Tuesday night confirmed that Republican businessman David Perdue is Democrat Michelle Nunn’s opponent for the U.S. Senate seat when Perdue defeated 11-term U.S. Representative Jack Kingston by about 51 to 49 percent. Knowing who she will now face, Nunn stopped by a fairly-crowded Little Kings Shuffle Club in downtown Athens Wednesday afternoon to talk more about the election.

Athens Clarke County's new District 3 commissioner is Melissa Link, who won the runoff tonight with 54 percent of the vote, 436 votes to 372, in a low-turnout second round of voting.
