Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn, after voting early in Adamsville, stopped by Athens City Hall this afternoon for a rally on her way to a fundraiser at The Hill.
Nunn touted a new poll giving her a slight lead over Republican nominee David Perdue and urged supporters to vote early. As she's done throughout the campaign, Nunn contrasted her views on education and her background as a nonprofit executive with Perdue's.
"I hope that we can do things in this election and as a senator that will actually affect people's lives," Nunn told about 75 supporters. "That's why I'm doing this, and that's why I think people are excited, whether it's raising the minimum wage or whether it's ensuring that all of our college students have an affordable pathway to college.

Someone in Athens paid suspended god-like tailback Todd Gurley $400 to sign 80 autographs last spring, then ratted him out to UGA's compliance office, according to Sports Illustrated.
Welp. There goes the season. Heisman Trophy candidate (until about 15 minutes ago) Todd Gurley has been suspended indefinitely, and we have no idea why. Here's the full two-paragraph statement from the Bulldogs:
A 73-year-old woman was hit by a car while crossing Prince Avenue on Tuesday.
The woman—who was not in a crosswalk—was crossing Prince near Oglethorpe Avenue at around 6 p.m. A 20-year-old Monroe woman driving a Toyota Scion hit her as she was turning right from Satula Avenue onto Prince, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
It sure is nice and sunny out right now, but the forecast calls for thunderstorms throughout the day Friday. Hence, UGA has canceled its annual Homecoming Parade.
But don't worry, ye lovers of pageantry:

Thanks to the Neighborhood Notification Initiative, it was brought to my attention that Daniel Epting, of Epting Events, was looking at modifying a space in the Chase Park Warehouses, on Tracy Street. Could it be a restaurant? Nah, it's an event rental space, but it has some interesting aspects that could affect the food scene in Athens.
Daniel was kind enough to walk me around the space yesterday as well as give me a tour of the Epting facility around the corner on Chase Street, by the Loop. The former tuxedo factory seems, for now, to have enough room to grow, but Epting is an ambitious company. No fools, they kept bolts and bolts of fabric, plus an unfinished sewing room that could end up being a good opportunity for Athens' small but blossoming fashion scene.

The Willson Center for Humanities and Arts announced this afternoon that it is partnering with Slingshot and UGA's Music Business Program for an outdoor concert on College Square Saturday, Nov. 8. Headlining the show is Big Star Third, an all-star group of musicians paying tribute to iconic Memphis power-pop group Big Star.
The cast of players, which has been touring the tribute show since 2010, includes original Big Star drummer Jody Stephens, as well as R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, Wilco's Pat Sansone, Ken Stringfellow of the Posies, Chris Stamey of the dB's and Mitch Easter of Let's Active.
