Does it still bring a tear to your eye every time you think about the poor old Farm Cart, no doubt rusting away in someone's backyard, unused and unloved? Well, dry your face because the cart is coming back, at least to the Athens Farmers Market. Michael Farfour and his wife, Iwalani Farfour, both of Full Moon Farm Coop, plus mother-in-law/mother Carole Brucato, of Backyard Bread, which was already a regular vendor at the market, have rescued it and are trying to get it up and running when AFM opens up again in April.

The Clarke County School District just announced that schools will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan. 7), presumably due to the fact that Athens is transforming into Antarctica. (What global warming, amirite?) So feel free to lay there like a slug if you want to.
Also, if you're curious whether it's snowing in Athens, here's a handy website.
Mayor Nancy Denson has raised almost $18,000 for her re-election campaign so far.
Denson's campaign finance disclosure has not shown up on the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission website, so we don't know yet who is contributing to her campaign. Opponent Tim Denson hasn't filed a disclosure yet (the deadline is Jan. 8), and Ryan Berry hasn't even filed as an official candidate.
Denson also announced her campaign brain trust. Houston Gaines is managing the campaign, taking the place of John Eric Schleicher, her grandson, who ran it in 2010. Todd Krohn is treasurer, and Dan Maxey is the publicity chairman.
Here's the full news release from Team Nancy:
Flagpole is still waiting on official word from owners Juan and Vanessa Molina, but a staff member at vegan eatery Echo (Flagpole review), which opened at the beginning of September in the former Farm 255 space on West Washington Street downtown, confirmed that the Molinas told employees the restaurant was closing permanently. The staffer also says there are no plans to move back to the original Broad Street Coffee location.
Reports had previously come in from diners who said the staff told their party it was quits and from former employees.
