Very little work or studying probably got done at UGA today as the university's website and internet (now lower case thanks to the AP) access were sluggish and/or completely down.
UGA's IT folks said the system was experience a distributed denial of service attack. I have no idea what that means, but here's a Wikipedia article.

House Bill 535, the “Brunch Bill,” has stalled out, killed by our very own Sen. Bill Cowsert (R-Athens), the AJC reports.
The bill would give local communities the option to allow restaurants to start serving alcohol at 10:30 a.m., rather than 12:30 p.m., on Sundays.

Athens brewery Creature Comforts may have run afoul of a law regulating brewery tours, 11 Alive reported Friday.
In a police report, Sgt. Laura Lusk, who is in charge of enforcing alcohol laws for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, said she went to “industry night” at the brewery last month and was given free beer but never offered a tour. (Nice work, if you can get it.) She cited two potential violations: giving away free alcohol and the lack of a tour.
The downtown used bookstore Jackson Street Books has closed after 31 years in business.

And so it continues... Speakeasy, which found new life early in 2015 with a beautifully revised menu and a new sense of refinement in the kitchen, will close December 31. Owner/chef Patrick Anderson wrote, on its Facebook page:

Dozens of Athens families may have to go without a turkey this Thanksgiving unless some generous souls step up.
Bird flu decimated the turkey population this year, which has driven prices up and out of reach of the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank, according to the group’s president, Kim Ramos.
