Rashe's Cuisine, at 211 Tallassee Road, is unfortunately closed at that location. Last week, pipes froze and burst, resulting in a flooded restaurant. Then the owner of the building sold it to another restaurant. It's a bit of a bummer, as Rashe's has been perhaps the most successful tenant in the space since it housed Cali N Tito's, years ago.

In the Loop: Two Story Coffee Loses Its Lease

After years at its location on South Lumpkin Street near the Five Points intersection, Two Story Coffee is moving.

When renewing their lease, the property manager, Parker and Associates, reportedly decided to go with another bid.

"It caught us off-guard," said Daniel Luft, Two Story's general manager. The popular studying spot for UGA students now has until the end of the month to pack up and move out.

Although her street was blocked by fallen trees, Flagpole photo intern Nicole Adamson ventured out Tuesday to snap some photos of damage along West Lake Drive.

Athens-Clarke County crews have removed many trees from roadways, but those that remain are entangled in power lines that must be removed by utility workers first. (Only about 1,000 Georgia Power customers in Athens remain without electricity.)

Apparently we have some local finalists for the Darwin Awards, because ACC felt the need to issue a press release warning people not to try to cut or remove those trees, or allow children to play around them.

In the Loop: The Georgia Square Mall Macy's Is Closing

The Georgia Square Mall Macy’s is one of 68 that will close this year as the company—like most brick-and-mortar department stores—continues to face declining revenue.

The Athens location, one of 880 nationwide, will close Mar. 1, potentially putting 69 employees out of work. Overall, the department-store chain is shedding more than 6,000 jobs.

Buffalo's Southwest Café, in the Beechwood Shopping Center, may technically be a chain, but the folks who own it locally (Rick and Sharon Roberts) have always run it more like a small business than like a franchise. Come Jan. 1, it (and the location of Fatburger just inside the door) will close permanently.
