An upcoming streetscape project will drastically change downtown Athens. You can learn more at a drop-in public forum from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Dougherty Street government building.
Tonight at Flicker, there's a great triple-bill of local talent, featuring Ryan Gray Moore of Brothers, Steven Trimmer of Grass Giraffes/Glasscrafts and Mothers, the folky project from songwriter Kristine Leschper. Watch Leschper play the gorgeous "Blood-Letting" below:

There's a pretty stellar bil of heavy music over at the Caledonia Lounge tonight, featuring locals Pale Prophet and Antpile as well as Richmond, VA's Inter Arma and Philly black-metal phenoms Woe, a band fronted by guitarist Chris Grigg whose latest album, Withdrawal, can be streamed after the jump:
On Tuesday, Echo, the vegan restaurant that took over the Washington Street space recently vacated by Farm 255, opened for business. Among the questions surrounding the transition was whether the new restaurant would continue Farm's tradition of hosting late-night live music and, more specifically, whether the new owners would keep Mercer West, who has been responsible for assembling some of the most interesting bills in Athens over the past near-decade, on as talent buyer.
The Athens-Clarke Commission approved arena-style seating for the Classic Center tonight in spite of citizens' concerns about circuses abusing animals.
Over at Green Room tonight, Atlanta rocker Tedo Stone kicks off a weekly September residency. Stone's well-worn Americana should appeal to fans of The District Attorneys and their This is American Music ilk.
As new bars move into Normaltown, the Pizza Hut franchise in that neighborhood decided to pack up and move to Baxter Street, across from the UGA dorms (and right next to the Papa John's. Mediocre pizza wars, anyone?).
But the new location will offer more than pepperoni: it will also house a "listening room," where you can enjoy stripped-down live music every weekend, complete with beer and wine for sale, according to local musician Bruce Moshe Lutz, who is booking the music there.
The unlikely pairing begins tonight at 9 p.m., when songwriter and luthier Scott Baxendale will perform. For future listings, keep your eyes peeled to our Calendar.
As anyone who's gone outside or even looked out a window the past few months knows, the drought is over. It's safe to water your lawn again.
Mayor Nancy Denson officially lifted almost all outdoor watering restrictions July 25. The Athens-Clarke County Commission ratified the decision tonight, and it takes effect Thursday.
Pretty nice, actually. This could be the first AthFest I remember when it wasn't 100 degrees outside, pouring down rain or both.
In case you haven't heard, the 2013 Flagpole Athens Music Awards show happens tonight at the Morton Theatre. In addition to a sweet slate of performances, we'll be handing out 19 awards in various categories, including Hip Hop, Rock, Experimental and so on.
But perhaps the most anticipated award is the final one: Artist of the Year, the ballot's sole write-in-only category (look at us, all democratic 'n shit), which, this year, resulted in three pretty disparate finalists. Meet them all, and hear a track from each band, below.
