“Here's a little bit of old school for ya that goes a little something like this”
—"Aaron's Party" (Come And Get It, 2000)
It's a hard thing to wrap one's mind around the idea that a pop star can make his comeback at the relatively tender age of 25, an age when a lot of pop stars are only just getting their first shot at fame, but turn-of-the-21st-Century sensation Aaron Carter is doing just that. Best known among his Generation Y fans (aka “millennials”) for his hits “Aaron's Party (Come Get It)” and “That's How I Beat Shaq,” Carter hasn't released an album proper for 11 years.

There are a whole lot of jams being kicked out tonight, starting over at the Georgia Theatre, where Jason Isbell will return to town and play a set of songs heavy on material from his latest album, Southeastern. Read our feature story on Isbell.
More, including Ty Segall's new band, after the jump.
They've been named checked by Patrick Stickles on Titus Andronicus' latest album, Local Business. They have more guitarists than Iron Maiden, if you can believe that. They've lapped the U.S. a few times this year and have what is arguably the most obscene name of any active band right now (one booking agent refused to work with them unless they changed it). Everything about the band and its sound screams reckless abandon.

Local folk duo Sans Abri, a group that features Josh Erwin and Michael Paynter of bluegrass mainstays Packway Handle Band, begins a monthlong residency at Green Room tonight. The band will play at the Lumpkin Street venue four Tuesdays in October—Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Oct. 22 and Oct. 29—previewing material from the upcoming Shelter LP all the while.

There's a lot of great music happening Thursday evening—and George Clinton is just the start. At Flicker, Hope for Agoldensummer will play an increasingly rare hometown gig, the band's last of the season before member Page Campbell heads back to her current home of Madison, WI. Opening the show are Nashville's Loney John Hutchins and locals Sea of Dogs, whose sublime folk is worth the $5 ticket price alone.

In addition to the Blitzen Trapper/Phox bill at the 40 Watt, there are a couple other notable shows happ'nin tonight. Click through for a preview.
In the paper this week, we profiled Son Volt's Jay Farrar, who spoke with us about his legendary career and his new memoir, Falling Cars and Junkyard Dogs. Back in May, we featured swamp-funkers the New Orleans Suspects, an all-star group of cats from the Crescent City.
Both bands are in town tonight—Son Volt is at the 40 Watt Club and the Suspects are at Melting Point—and you can win tickets by commenting below.
Local post-punk/dance crew The New Sound of Numbers has been working on its new LP Invisible Magnetic for the better part of this year; back in March, we gave you a taste of the title track. Now, finally, the album is prepped for mass consumption, and the group will celebrate with a release show at Flicker Theatre & Bar tonight.
Today, Flagpole is beyond excited to premiere an exclusive new tune from the record, which is out on local imprint Cloud Recordings. Below, stream "Complete," a joyous, psychedelic dance workout and Invisible Magnetic's second track.
As almost any up-and-coming band in Athens will tell you, an opening slot at the Georgia Theatre is nothing to scoff at. For folk-infused local band Family and Friends, warming up a crowd for Athens mainstays Packway Handle Band is proof that you can go a long way in a little amount of time in this town. Although the band has only been playing as a full unit since late April, it's begun to generate quite a bit of buzz around town, squeezing in quite a few shows this summer and laying the groundwork for a record to be released sometime in the near future.
