If there were an award for hardest-working rock band in Athens, it'd surely go to Deep State. The pop-punk four-piece has seemingly remained on the road since releasing the excellent Thought Garden in April, and it's somehow found time to begin prepping another new LP, reportedly titled The Path to Fast Oblivion.
Relatively new Athens project Blanko isn't a band in the traditional sense. Rather, it's an audio-visual outlet for the skewed musings of local songwriter and artist Larson Collier, known for playing with indie rockers Big Morgan.

Local indie-rock stalwarts Elf Power are riding high after releasing Twitching in Time, a career highlight, back in May. Following a summer tour with Tobin Sprout, the band is settling back in to Athens life and ushering in autumn with an animated collage video for Twitching in Time gem "Cycling Aimlessly," which we're pleased to premiere today.
Athens rapper Malcolm Walters, aka Donny Knottsville, maintains a prolific recording schedule, having released a string of solid mixtapes over the past few years, and in July he dropped his most complex and cohesive album yet, Celestial Seasons, which you can download for free on Bandcamp.
Athens garage-punk group Kwazymoto has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on a new full-length titled Limerance Land—the successor to last year's On Mount Rennie—which it plans to release Friday, Oct. 13.

Local singer-songwriter Timi Conley is perhaps best known as the founder and spiritual ambassador of the annual Wild Rumpus celebration, but Athenians also know him for his tireless exploration of the funky far reaches of pop. With Kite to the Moon and, more recently, Timi & Wonderland Rangers, Conley crafts thoughtful, ecstatic music designed to make crowds move.

Local band Hand Sand Hands—the exploratory solo project of musician Jon Miller—has maintained a low profile since releasing the Flagpole fave Good Luck With That in 2014. Now, Miller is set to return with a full-length follow-up, Bad Mountain, out July 7 via Athens label Arrowhawk Records.

Local rock band Big Morgan formed a few years back and quickly became a favorite of the house-party set, thanks to its manic energy and appealingly goofy songwriting. Though the band's members are arguably better known for their other projects—Juan de Fuca, Trip Lacy and Mad Ace among them—Big Morgan remains an outlet for their more primal rock and roll desires.
Today, we're psyched to premiere a new Big Morgan tune, "Crater." It's from the band's upcoming debut LP, Superpunch!, out later this summer. Stream it below:

Athens-based psych-rock band The Eskimos called it quits in 2002, but quietly reformed in recent years, after frontman Drew Sinclair's karaoke rendition of an ABBA tune drew rave reviews from fellow patrons at a Decatur, AL bar. Or so the band would have you believe.
Folk trio Cicada Rhythm has been a Flagpole fave since the then-duo of Andrea DeMarcus and Dave Kirslis moved to Athens in 2013. In 2015, the group released its official debut via Normaltown Records. Since then, the band's been gigging steadily and working on new material.
