If there's been one band on seemingly everyone's lips lately, it's Nihilist Cheerleader. The young punk four-piece has earned a loyal local fanbase thanks to a scrappy, melodic sound, lyrics that alternate seamlessly between playful and political, and a beyond-their-years comprehension of musical tension and release.

Athens-based post-punk band Einschlagen is readying the release of its first album, Not Angry, Disappointed, tracked at The Glow Recording Studio and out Monday, Mar. 13 via band member Taylor Chicoine's Perfect Attendance Records.

Today, we're pumped to premiere the record's lead single, the glassy, agile "Wolf Tooth," which features vocals from group newcomer Aubry Meers. Stream it below:

Athensmade, a local nonprofit that aims to "educate, support and promote homegrown brands, entrepreneurs and creative professionals" here in town, has partnered with production company LiveSyphon to create a pilot for a web series focused on the Athens music scene.

Nihilist Cheerleader has had a pretty good year. The local punk band started 2016 with a bang, releasing the stellar Truth or Dare EP in January. Then, in June, the group won Upstart of the Year at the Flagpole Athens Music Awards. Its jam-packed AthFest show was one of that event's incontestable highlights.

The Athens-music explosion during the 1980s birthed hundreds of local bands, many of which have been rendered obscure by time. Until now, pop quartet Seven Simons was one such group. The band released two albums during its initial run—1988's Clockwork and 1991's Four Twenty-Four—that were indebted both to R.E.M.'s jangle-rock sound and also the era's moodier UK alt-rock scene.
