Homedrone: Flagpole Premieres: Monsoon, 'Never Knows Best' Video

Athensmade, a local nonprofit that aims to "educate, support and promote homegrown brands, entrepreneurs and creative professionals" here in town, has partnered with production company LiveSyphon to create a pilot for a web series focused on the Athens music scene.

Today, we're happy to give you a first glimpse at the project, via a video of Monsoon performing its song "Never Knows Best," which was filmed recently at Flicker Theatre & Bar.

Nihilist Cheerleader has had a pretty good year. The local punk band started 2016 with a bang, releasing the stellar Truth or Dare EP in January. Then, in June, the group won Upstart of the Year at the Flagpole Athens Music Awards. Its jam-packed AthFest show was one of that event's incontestable highlights.

Athens mainstay Muuy Biien has been relatively quiet on the local front over the past year or so, but now the group is gearing up to release its third full-length. Age of Uncertainty is out Oct. 28 via Los Angeles imprint Autumn Tone Records. The label was founded by Aquarium Drunkard mastermind (and former Athenian) Justin Gage.

In the Loop: Drive-By Truckers Urge Democratic Party Unity

MSNBC’s Kate Snow interviewed Athens-based band the Drive-By Truckers Tuesday afternoon at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Co-frontman Patterson Hood addressed party unity, saying that he’s now backing the party’s nominee, Hillary Clinton, after supporting Bernie Sanders initially.

“It’s what needs to happen. The stakes are too high right now to sit around and cry because our first choice didn’t get to go on the way. I’m definitely totally on board” with Hillary Clinton, Hood said.

Legendary Athens band The B-52s put a rockabilly spin on David Allen Coe’s country downer of a theme song for this week’s episode of “Squidbillies,” airing Sunday at 11:30 p.m. on Cartoon Network.

For the uninitiated, “Squidbillies” follows a family of, yes, hillbilly squid led by paterfamilias Early Cuyler and their shotgun-and-party-liquor-fueled shenanigans in a thinly disguised version of Douglas County, GA.

Homedrone: Arbor Labor Union Releases Video for Eight-Minute LP Centerpiece 'Volume Peaks'

Last November, Athens/Atlanta band Pinecones, a fast Flagpole favorite, announced it was changing its name to Arbor Labor Union and signing with indie juggernaut Sub Pop, which released the group's new album, I Hear You, May 13.

The band recently revealed a music video for the record's eight-minute centerpiece, the muscular, meandering "Volume Peaks." The clip was filmed at Jekyll Island's Driftwood Beach and a Ruth Street house and features lighting by local psychedelic-projection collective Eye Gate.
