In the Loop: Actor Tituss Burgess Shames 'Shady' Georgia and UGA

Athens native Tituss Burgess, star of Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” had some harsh words for his home state during an appearance on “The Late Show” Friday.

The Emmy-nominated actor, who graduated from Cedar Shoals High School and the University of Georgia, told host Stephen Colbert that he wants to give a commencement speech at UGA. The hypothetical speech, he said, would take aim at student apathy and the “religious liberty” bill passed by the state legislature but vetoed by Gov. Nathan Deal last month. He gave Colbert's audience a preview:

Homedrone: Behold a New Video From The Rodney Kings

After a substantial hiatus, local three-piece street-punk outfit The Rodney Kings has returned with a new EP, Friday Night With… The Rodney Kings, two songs from which you can currently stream on Bandcamp. The band plans to release the second half of the EP later this month.

Below, check out a video for one of the new tracks, "Black Out." The clip stars the band's three members, as well as a certain Athens-based alternative weekly that continues to defy all odds by thriving in the midst of a frankly terrifying print-media landscape.

Homedrone: Flagpole Premieres: Pylon Reenactment Society, 'Beep' Video (Live at Art Rocks Athens)

In 2014, Pylon leader Vanessa Briscoe Hay got the idea to assemble a crack cast of Athens musicians to pay tribute to the music of her legendary new wave band. The group, dubbed the Pylon Reenactment Society, played once that year as part of the inaugural Art Rocks Athens event, then again for the 2015 edition.

Now the band—Jason NeSmith, Kay Stanton, Damon Denton, Joe Rowe and Hay—is embarking on a mini-tour alongside E6 associates Dressy Bessy. The two groups will play the 40 Watt this Saturday, Feb. 20. (Check out this week's feature on the PRS here.)

Today we're pleased to premiere the live video for "Beep," filmed at last year's ARA. Check out the clip, produced by the Art Rocks Athens Foundation, below:
