Athens musician Phelan LaVelle is one busy bee. In addition to fronting Shade, the excellent local groove-punk outfit that recently finished recording its sophomore album with Chase Park Transduction honcho David Barbe, she sings and plays bass in Crunchy, a similarly spaced-out rock and roll duo. On Saturday, June 27, she will debut Scrunchie, a Crunchy spin-off, as part of Go Bar's AthFest showcase.
In total, LaVelle's three projects will play five shows over the course of this weekend, which makes today a fine occasion to premiere the video for "DUOP," a stonerrific tune from Crunchy's upcoming Spicy World EP.

As Gordon Lamb reported in last week's Threats & Promises, hard-hitting Athens rock trioMotherfucker is gearing up to release its debut full-length, Confetti, July 30 via Chicago label Sick Room Records.
A couple weeks back, the band posted three songs from the album to its Bandcamp page, and now Flagpole is happy to premiere the official video for the record's blistering title track.
Since forming last year, eccentric Athens psych supergroup Mind Brains has built a steady buzz on the basis of a must-see live show and a terrific self-titled album, released via Orange Twin.
Over the past few months, the band has released a steady stream of videos for many of the songs on the record, and today, we're happy to premiere the clip for Mind Brains' lead-off track, "Happy Stomp."
After declaring that they were on "indefinite hiatus" late last year, Birdhouse Collection vestige Velocirapture is gearing up to release a new album, reportedly titled Life In the Darkness. You can check out the first taste of the record by pressing play on the video below:

Athens-based alt-rock band Grand Vapids has quickly established itself as a force on the local scene, gigging tirelessly and releasing a fantastic debut LP, Guarantees, earlier this year (Flagpole review).
Today, we're pleased to premiere a video for the album's lead single, the thunderous "Adequate."

The 2015 Flagpole Athens Music Awards takes place Thursday, June 25 at the historic Morton Theatre in downtown Athens. As always, the show will feature live music from a hand-selected lineup of our favorite local artists, as well as a special non-music performance to be announced. Plus: Hijinks! Surprises! #BasedHost Tom Visions! And much more!
The awards ballot—as painstakingly assembled by a panel of nine local music-scene movers and shakers plus Flagpole's music editor—is now live, and you can vote right over here.
Check out the list of last year's winners, as well as photos and video of the 2014 awards show, here.

This week's cover story focuses on Athens rapper and community activist Ishmael Cuthbertson, who performed and recorded under the moniker Ishues in the mid-2000s before leaving the music industry to focus on faith and family.
In preparation for the article, Flagpole writer and photographer Randy Schafer spent time with Cuthbertson and his family over the course of several weeks this spring. To supplement his words and photos, Schafer also put together a 12-minute video documentary, which you can watch below:
Pacific Northwest indie rock icons Modest Mouse played a sold-out Georgia Theatre show earlier this month, but that's not the only thing the band was up to during its stay in Athens. The band also used the Classic City as a location for its latest music video shoot; you can stream the resulting clip, for Strangers to Ourselves single "Lampshades on Fire," below:
Former Star Room Boys frontman (and former Flagpole City Editor) Dave Marr is hard at work on a new studio album, which will feature his first official new recordings in a decade and a half.
Marr has been been laying down tracks at The Glow Recording Studio with engineer Jesse Mangum, and now he's put together a video, with the help of Atlanta filmmaker Jim Issa. The clip features a rough version of "Thank You," a deep, aching tune from the new record.

Last we heard from the garage-rocking rabblerousers in Chief Scout, they were traveling the East Coast and reporting for Flagpole from the road.
Now, the group has unveiled a new music video, for "Oh Shit," a sprightly single released last year via MOEKE Records' Summer Singles series.
